DOA: Lamborghini Canto. In the first of a new series looking at Drive-My cars that didn't quite make production, it's the Diablo replacement that some considered to be the work of the Devil himself.

THERE ARE SIGNS, here and there. If you rattle the Huracan Performante Spyder over a rough patch of tarmac at speed, you’ll be aware of the structure shuddering slightly around you. In the third gear with the throttle wide open it doesn’t feel as effortlessly accelerative as it might – although by the time 6000rpm has come and gone you won’t believe there could be another car that’s as fast.

Lamborghini Terzo Millennio. Lamborghini has finally succumbed to the benefits of electric propulsion with this rather aggressive piece of automotive art. Developed in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the car is equipped with super capacitors in lieu of Li-ion batteries. Each wheel contains an “electric engine” ensuring all-wheel drive capability.

Lamborghini promises that its new Rear- Wheel Drive (RWD) version of the Huracán EVO will be “an instinctive driver’s car”. The familiar V10 engine offers less power and torque than the all-wheel drive EVO, at 610hp and 560Nm. The RWD weighs in at 1389kg, some 33kg less than the regular Huracán EVO, and has a more rearward-orientated weight distribution of 40/60 front/rear. The top speed of 201mph is the same as the AWD model but the 0-62mh time is 0.4 seconds slower at 3.3sec.

Bull shift. Lamborghini is embracing hybrid power for its future models. The 808bhp Sian is the first.

While Koenigsegg was imagining the future, Lamborghini pressed rewind, revealing the RWD-badged Huracán Evo Spyder.

The new Lamborghini Huracán EVO Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) is now available in open-top Spyder form as well as the recently launched RWD Coupe. The Spyder’s soft-top roof stows within 17 seconds and is operable at up to 31mph. A range of roof colour options is offered. Lamborghini promises “a quiet cockpit” with roof up or down. An electric rear window can be opened to let the sound of the V10 engine in, while two removable lateral screens dampen cabin noise.

Tuner Novitec has a new Sports Package for the Ferrari 488 Pista. Three levels of engine tuning are offered, with up to 82hp extra power (making 802hp in all) and up to 898Nm of torque. The 0-62mph time drops to 2.7 seconds and the top speed increases to 214mph.

The sensational Lamborghini Marzal prototype has returned to Monte Carlo more than 50 years after its debut at the 1967 Formula 1 Grand Prix. Prince Albert of Monaco paraded it around the 2018 Grand Prix de Monaco Historique, just as his father had 51 years before.

Lamborghini has unveiled an unconventional new concept car, the Huracan Sterrato, that mixes elements of the Huracan and Urus. Lamborghini cites its Jarama and Urraco rally cars of the 1970s as inspiration.
